Touch typing for kids

Touch typing can hugely benefit children with ADHD.

Many kids with ADHD struggle with dyslexia and/or dyspraxia (motor coordination difficulties), which together can make handwriting really hard work. The result is that their written output doesn’t reflect their ability and intelligence - something which is deeply frustrating for them.

Special pens or pencils can sometimes help, as can paper with guide lines - but it’s often not enough.

For many of these children, switching to using a laptop at school and learning to touch type can transform their school work. Proper touch typing skills - the ability to type with the right fingers without looking - is really key! There isn’t enough touch typing training available in schools just now, considering how vital it is in the modern world.

In 2020 we ran our first ADHD touch typing holiday course in collaboration with Type by Touch. We hope to do more in the future. In the meantime, it may be something worth discussing with your child’s school.
